In 1908, Otto Steiff and the Steiff representative in England, Herbert Hughes, ordered for presentation in London a set of six brightly coloured bears. Four of these in the colours green, yellow, pink and black crossed the channel as samples and have never been seen since!! The red and the blue bears did however make it and sold for record prices at auction - for example the blue bear sold for almost 65,000 euros in 1993 !! [These two colours will not be part of the series]
The first limited edition bear in the series released in 2005 was green and the second bear, the yellow one, was released in 2006, pink was released in 2007 and the final bear in black [and likely to be the most sought after] is now being released in 2008.
Teddy 1908 is 35cm tall in black mohair, fully jointed, stuffed with wood shavings,with boot-button eyes and he has a growler. He has a gold-plated 'Button in Ear' with white tag and black writing to signify this is an archive limited edition item.
Black bears are always popular - and he is a limited edition of only 3000 worldwide.
